That the Federals overcame the advantages the confederates had does not mean the result was inevitable.  
The fact that they maintained the will to fight through the relatively short four years does not mean the result was inevitable.

I accept that retaining the political will was not a given--which I why I 
pelled it out. 
The other things you mention are important considerations, but the fact is that 
orth overcame them all. 
I still don't understand why maintaining this position makes one a 'Lost 
auser.'
